Some International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) signs are used in the app. For example, we use the signs /d/, /t/, /ɪd/ when users need to learn how to pronounce past tense verbs (e.g. stopped, visited, worked).

However, it is not necessary to know the whole phonetic alphabet to be able to use Flowchase as the signs are not ubiquitous.

Moreover, in the manual, you will find all the theory necessary to understand and use correctly the IPA. The tutorials (in the app) at the beginning of the lessons also cover this theory and explain the different symbols that will be used later in the exercises.

If you have any questions regarding the use of IPA and the different exercises, please feel free to contact our team on our live chat.
